He did send me a bottle of tequila to my room, and that was the only time I had decent tequila to drink at the resort. He didn't really have an answer for me, just talking in circles. I asked him why the tequilas that were advertised at all of the bars were not provided. He discussed with me the tequila producers were not willing to sell to the hotels only to liquor distributors. He stated the staff was not fully trained and might not know what they have available. I wanted to talk to him about the behavior of the bar staff as well as the tequila they did not have however, was advertised. After dealing with the unfriendly bartenders and not having high end tequila, I spoke to the manager, David Cappitella. Which they do not have either, it was something else. Later that night we stopped at the lobby bar and I was told they got me a shot of Patron. I then asked what is the best tequila you have, he poured me a shot of el jimador, that is a very low quality tequila. When I asked for a shot of Don Julio, I was told they were out. It was advertised on the table tent that there was Don Julio along with several other high end tequilas. One of the reasons we enjoy staying at the palaces is due to the fact that I love tequila and Riu usually has high end liquor. The majority of the staff at this hotel were so rude (mainly the swim up bar) that we decided not to go to that bar and chose the opposite side bar as they were much friendlier. As far as the staff goes, we go to Mexico every year because of the way we are treated by staff. You would think the specialty restaurants would be the best. The best food in the hotel is by far the buffet. We enjoyed the food there more than any of the other specialty restaurants however, the waiter was so rude and condescending, we were so disappointed. On our last night, we went to the Italian restaurant. The Mexican food was very low par, almost uneatable. Steaks were supposed to be filets we received low quality beef that was very chewy. However, the food in the specialty restaurants was awful. Our room was cleaned beautifully every day as well. The buildings and the grounds were beautiful and well kept. Out of all of our stays, this is by far the worst hotel we have stayed at. We have stayed at many Riu hotels throughout the years - both regular and palaces. It was advertised on the table tent that there was Don Julio along with several other high.
